Blogging - Why Bother?
Writing
Seventeen years ago blogging was Wordpress or bust. Yeah, but nowadays, it’s even easier than that. There’s loads of great platforms (Hello, scribbles.page or Ghost) you can use. And if you’re a coder? Even better (hello Astro).
So that’s grand. why bother though? How has that changed? Do I write blog posts today for the same reason as when I first started? Or has that changed?
Oh crap. This post is going to be short. The answer is: no. No change. I blog today for the same reason I’ve been blogging all these years.
I’ve got something to say. And a blog seems as good as anywhere to say it.
I do remember back in the day, people used to write more personal stuff. Before the great ‘content driven’ marketing bollocks started. You’d get folk writing about the last great meal they cooked. Not because they were chefs. But because they like cooking. Simple.
I miss those days. When SEO meant: ‘Shout Everything Out’ and not: Search Engine… whatever the fuck it means now. You get blog posts that are no more than bullshit about some product or other. I mean, fine, if you talk about it like a human. Rather than some marketing android.
Now, there is another point. What about writing for an audience? I mean, I’m an indie author, so you’d think I’d be all over that.
Nope.
I still write stuff that is an idea for a novel. Or a couple of characters chatting shite at each other. Or stuff like this one, a bit of a rant about something or other. Because you see, I’m a rebel. Yes, I like that. I’m a blogging rebel. Balls to SEO, content marketing and all that.
I going to keep writing stuff that falls out if my head. You know, like a blogger. Same as it was 17 years ago.
