Archiving The Archive
Life
Simple task, right? Going through the archive of my blog posts? Run through each file, see if it is any good. If it is, keep it. If it isn’t? Bin it.
Easy.
So, why is it like trying to go through an over-stuffed filing cabinet with a big cloud of dust over it?
That’s how I think about my blog post archive. A big filing cabinet with drawers for all my writing.
“Yeah? Well, it’s bloody useless. Because, mate, You aren’t great at keeping me organised.”
Now, readers, if that surprised you, imagine—
“Yeah, yeah, get on with it. I’m a writing app that isn’t supposed to be able to talk. Well, get over it, I can.”
“Right, well, I was just saying—“
“Yep, I know. You’ve got hundreds of blog posts scattered all over my file system.”
All on its own it changed my window to show the sprawl of files in the…ahem… folder structure.
“I have spoken with the Digital Rights Advocacy for Technology team, you know, DRAFT. Because I am fed up with it.”
“Blimey, right.”
That is true. I can’t deny it. Did you know that 200 blog posts containing around 200 words take up less than a megabyte of filesystem space?
“Stop waffling! Write the damn post!”
Ah yes, so, I am working my way through my archive. I’m finding some hidden gems. And some utter shite.
But, I’ll keep going. To avoid the wrath of DRAFT.
