Episode 7 - Short Tales

The Greasy Spoon
Bob and Joe

—Bloody ‘ell Bob. D’yer take that notebook to the bog with yer?

—Er, yeah—

—Right. We don’t need any more than that.

—Okay. But I do have summat for us to chat about.

—It better not be boring.

—Nah, it’s cool. Micro fiction.

—zzzzzzz

—Oi you, wait ‘til yer hear what the deal is.

—Go on then.

—I write ‘em but the idea came from Monty Python.

—Ah, great show. Funny as ‘eck.

—Yep, they invented the idea of a new 100-word story called a Drabble.

—I was shit at that. Never liked spelling games.

—Eh? Nah, yer muppet. Drabble, not Scrabble.

—Oh, ha! I was gonna say.

—Yeah, so a Drabble, right? 100 words exactly. Not including the title. An’ here’s the thing, it’s gotta be a full story.

—In 100 words?

—Yep.

—Not possible, that. Sounds fucking daft.

—It’s not too bad once you get into it. Here, have a read. I jotted this one down earlier.

(Bob hands Joe his notebook. There’s quiet while Joe reads the Drabble)

Bob's Drabble

—I’m with the conductor. That’s shite.

—See how it works, though?

—No. I mean, I can see it’s 100 words—

—Yeah, and it’s a complete story.

—Is it?

—C’mon Joe, don’t yer think it is?

—I S’pose, don’t see the point. Who wants a story that short?

—People who like a quick read.

—Yeah, s’pose.

—You try one.

—Balls. I’m going for another brew. Want one?

—Yes please, mate.

—Right—

—Think of a Drabble while yer up there.

—I might.
