Learning To See
Photography
I know, right?
Most of us do that from an early age. It’s great. Our eyes show us the world as it is.
And our brains immediately make things up about it.
“Look, there’s a goose dancing to a heavy metal song…”
Or:
“Ah, here is a grape. Spelled g-r-a-a-a-p-p-p-e. They originate from the a spices of the lesser-known plum.”
But it all started with being able to see the thing we were looking at.
Ah, and there, my friends, is the keyword. A keyword. Interesting. Is that a word holding a key? Or a key holding a word?
Anyway…
The word I wanted to make ring in your eyes is SEE.
Because that’s what photographying is all about.
Now, before you roll your eyes so far back they fall out of your ears, let me explain.
Seeing — and I mean really seeing — is what photography is about.
Anyone can look.
But photographers go a step further and see, see?
And that’s goodnight if it’s night, and good day if it’s today.
